Solving or effective indicating alternatives to solve the environmental liability correction would not be possible if the area of influence was unknown.

In Itaipu’s case, the environmental liabilities in the company's area of influence bring consequences that are directly reflected on the business basic input, which refers to its reservoir's stored water.

The territorial management program therefore seeks to sort out all the existing information, as well as those that are constantly being acquired, in order to generate a concise databank of the area.

Thus, the program aims at implementing both investigating and management policies for information on the territory by handling socioeconomic, environmental and geographical data through mapping and geoprocessing techniques for generating environmental management better results.

A democratic, quality access to territorial and environmental information by the different social actors of Itaipu socio-environmental programs is a key issue to help their decision making process on the territory’s management and the indication of a solution for the environmental liability correction.

That is why Itaipu has strengthened its IT (information technology) units – both on the right (Paraguay) and left (Brazil) borders – which are continuously structured and consolidated through the admission of qualified, trained staff and the periodic updating of geographic data.

All programs and projects by Itaipu and local cities requiring quality territorial and environmental information benefit from this methodology of work.

The program has not only implemented and structured the Geoprocessing and Mapping Units, but also enabled the development of territorial and environmental information storage and sharing apps.
